Working people build power and a real voice on the job by acting together, and Adam sees the law as a tool for that work, not a substitute for it. He brings rigorous preparation, candid advice, and forceful advocacy to help the unions and workers he represents advance the goals they set.
Adam represents public- and private-sector unions in collective bargaining, arbitration, litigation, and proceedings before the National Labor Relations Board, the D.C. Public Employee Relations Board, and other agencies. He negotiates collective bargaining agreements, including first contracts, and handles high-stakes arbitrations for national and local unions involving contract interpretation, discipline, interest arbitration, and disputes over remedies and attorneys’ fees. He litigates in state and federal court to enforce arbitration awards and agreements to arbitrate, and he defends unions against duty-of-fair-representation claims in court and before the Board. Adam also represents workers in class and collective actions to recover unpaid wages under the Fair Labor Standards Act and state wage laws and to enforce the WARN Act. He is known for meticulous preparation, forceful advocacy, and legal strategy built to strengthen the union’s hand at the bargaining table and in the workplace.
Adam regularly develops and presents training for the leaders, officers, and members of the unions he represents. He is active in professional organizations for labor and employment lawyers, where he speaks on panels, serves on committees, and contributes to their publications, and he partners with civil rights and legal aid organizations as co-counsel in cases for low-wage workers.
